Internship Sales Group Project

Build Your Resume:   It has been said so many times that a job requires experience, and yet you cannot get hired unless you have it, but if no one will hire you how are you suppose to get experience?  Well, the answer is an internship.  It provides the best way to gain the experience needed.  Internships help to build a resume that will include career related experience.
Get Some Insight:  An internship will give you the opportunity to learn hands on.  You will be able to utilize the skills you have learned and polish communication skills.  Internships allow you the opportunity to apply theories learned to real life situations.
Network:  Build your own network of contacts. You can meet a variety of people and make friends who can also put you in touch with people they know.  Building your network is an essential part of getting your foot in the door where ever you go.  It’s often said that it is not what you know but who you know.
Gain Confidence:  By completing an internship, you will be able to gain confidence while learning about your chosen trade with hands on experience.   After an internship you will be left with the confidence that you know everything about the job you would like to pursue.  Confidence will help you when applying for jobs in the future.
Get Your Foot in the Door:  Internships allow you to get your foot in the door with a company you are interested in.  Most companies will hire successful interns over those applying from outside.
Try the Career on:  Before you make the long-term commitment, it is a good idea to “try the career on”.  You really do not know exactly what a career is going to be like until you try it out.  By doing this, you are able to see if it fits with what you enjoy and want to continue doing long-term.

Testimonial of an Intern
Michael Balser, UVU student and political science major, was one of 5 interns selected to do an internship in 2009 for Senator Bennett in Washington DC.  Balser relates that, “Completing an internship in Washington DC taught me things I could never have learned in class.  Washington DC is where history is made.  I attended the inauguration of the first African American President as well as sessions of Congress, and seminars on legal research held in the Library of Congress.   I was also given the opportunity to learn facts about the Nation’s Capital and give tours.   My internship was a paid internship but the pay has become a side note.    I received 9 college credits and collected over 100 contacts for present and future networking.   It was the opportunity of a lifetime and was key in procuring my current internship with President Holland.”
